Local

Similar species: Dentated Pug Anticollix sparsata is smaller (11 to 13mm) with a more prominent forewing spot and black dashes along the leading edge. It also has a different scallop pattern on the edge of the hindwing.

Forewing: 13 to 16mm

Habitats: Woodland margins, hedgerows, calcareous downland scrub, marshes and fens.

Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed in the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds on Purging Buckthorn, hiding between spun leaves during the day. It pupates in a cocoon under the soil.
