Geometridae
70.119 Dark Umber Philereme transversata britannica (Lempke, 1768)
Local
Similar species: The combination of the dark band on the forewing and the scalloped edges to the wing means that it is unlikely that it will be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 17 to 20mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland margins, calcareous downland scrub, hedgerows, marshes and fens.
Habits: The moth is very occasionally disturbed from buckthorn during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds on Purging Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn, hiding between spun leaves during the day. It pupates in the soil.
