Similar species: Scarce Tissue Hydria cervinalis is superficially similar until the two moths are put side by side.

Forewing: 19 to 22mm

Habitats: Woodland, coastal and inland calcareous downland scrub, hedgerows and acid heathland.

Habits: The moth comes sparingly to light and nectars after dark on Buddleia, Ivy blossom and sallow blossom. It overwinters as an adult in caves, bunkers, outhouses and dark disused buildings.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Purging Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn. It pupates in loose soil.
