Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 13 to 16mm
Habitats: Wet flushes on upland pasture and moorland.
Habits: Both sexes fly in afternoon sunshine, the male more actively. They drop down into the vegetation when the weather is dull. Although rarely seen at dusk, both sexes come to light after it is dark.
Foodplant: The larva possibly feeds on Meadow Buttercup. In captivity it will accept Meadow Buttercup, Traveller's-joy (absent from known breeding sites) and Dandelion. It pupates in an earthen cocoon in the soil.
