70.149 Cloaked Pug Eupithecia abietaria (Goeze, 1781)

Uncommon / possible Immigrant

Similar species: Its large size and strong markings makes this moth distinctive.

Forewing: 11 to 15mm

Habitats: Conifer plantations, coniferous woodland and coniferous shelter belts.

Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed during the day. It comes sparingly to light.

Foodplant: The larva devours the ripe seeds and inner parts of the cones of mature conifers. It most commonly feeds on Norway Spruce, but it has also been recorded from Sitka Spruce, European Silver Fir, Noble Fir and larch, and probably feeds on other conifers.
