Similar species: Haworth's Pug Eupithecia haworthiata has similar wing markings, but also has an orange thorax and abdomen.

Forewing: 9 to 10mm

Habitats: Open woodland, rides and coppice clearings. Meadows, dune-slacks and sand-dunes.

Habits: The moth occasionally flies briefly in the afternoon, but is otherwise not easily disturbed. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The flowers of Common Cow-wheat and occasionally Yellow-rattle. It pupates in the leaf litter or in loose soil.
