Common

Similar species: With its curved leading edge, large forewing dash, strong cross-lines and dark bar across the abdomen, this medium sized pug is distinctive.

Forewing: 9 to 11mm

Habitats: Conifer plantations, coniferous shelter belts, parkland and gardens.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed by tapping the lower branches of conifers during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on the needles of Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce and occasionally on Western Hemlock, Lawson's Cypress, Western Red-cedar, Giant Fir and other conifers. It pupates in loose soil.
