Similar species: Scarce Pug Eupithecia extensaria is superficially similar, but has a broader forewing with a straight leading edge and is much larger (11 to 13mm) with a coastal saltmarsh habitat.

Habitats: Moorland and heathland.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from Heather during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers of Heather. It pupates in a cocoon in loose soil.
