Similar species: A distinctive moth. Unless very worn it is unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 9 to 11mm
Habitats: Oak woodland and mature hedgerow oaks.
Habits: The moth sometimes rests on oak trunks and branches during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the leaves of Pendunculate Oak and probably Sessile Oak. It pupates in loose soil.
On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on Evergreen Oak.
