Common

Similar species: Wormwood Pug Eupithecia absinthiata is found in a wider variety of habitats, has a more rufous forewing and is larger (11 to 13mm). Pimpinel Pug Eupithecia pimpinellata has a more prominent discal spot with a surrounding grey area, a wavy outer crossline and an orange rather than black bar across the abdomen.

Forewing: 9 to 11mm

Habitats: Heathland and acid moorland.

Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers of Heather. It pupates in loose soil.
