Similar species: Wormwood Pug Eupithecia absinthiata has a larger (11 to 13mm), but narrower forewing. Bleached Pug Eupithecia expallidata has a larger (12 to 13mm) pale forewing with cross-lines and a less obvious white spot in the trailing corner.
Forewing: 9 to 12mm
Habitats: Open woodland, hedgerows, allotments and gardens.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from the foodplants during the day. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Red Currant, Black Currant and Wild Hop. It pupates in loose soil.
