Similar species: Treble-bar Aplocera plagiata is larger (19 to 22mm), as is Lesser Treble-bar Aplocera praeformata (16 to 19mm). Both have more angled basal cross-bands and lack the red flush of colour in the outer area of the forewing.

Forewing: 11 to 15mm

Habitats: Wet flushes and other open wet areas on moorland, damp heathland, raised bogs and mosses.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed on sunny days. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers and leaves of Bilberry, Cowberry and Cranberry. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter.
