Similar species: This male moth like its close relatives has a split hindwing which looks like a small lobed hindwing on top of the other and attached at the base. Although variable, if care is taken it should not be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 12 to 15mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland and poplar plantations.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from tree trunks during the day. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Aspen, Black Poplar and sometimes other poplars. It pupates in a cocoon just below the soil surface.
