Habitats: Damp deciduous woodland, sallow carr, scrub, marshes, fens, damp heathland, sand-dunes and dune slacks.

Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on sallows and sometimes White Willow. It pupates in the leaf litter.

On the European mainland it has been recorded feeding on Osier Willow, Purple Willow and Aspen.
