Similar species: Unless very worn it is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish moth. As with close relatives the male has a lobe attached at the trailing edge of its hindwing.
Forewing: 10 to 14mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, hedgerows, sand-dunes and gardens.
Habits: The moth rests on tree trunks during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers, buds and leaves of Ivy, Holly, Wild Privet, Hawthorn, Dogwood and Guelder-rose.
