Similar species: Dark Bordered Beauty Epione vespertaria is a darker moth with darker outer borders to the wings. The females have a pale-yellow rather than orange ground colour.
Forewing: 13 to 16mm
Habitats: Sallow carr, damp woodland rides and clearings, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk when it can be seen flying amongst sallows. It also comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Grey Willow, other sallows, Alder, Black Poplar or Hazel. It pupates amongst spun leaves.
