Similar species: If care is taken this moth is distinct enough that it should not be mistaken for other similar sized British or Irish geometers.
Forewing: 15 to 17mm
Habitats: Ancient or long establish, mature, deciduous woodland.
Habits: Collectors used to catch the moth using long poles to sweep them from the canopy. Females were searched for on tree trunks.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on lichens on the trunks of oaks, Beech, birches and other trees. It pupates in a cocoon spun amongst lichens.
