Common

Similar species: Square Spot Paradarisa consonaria has a dark rectangle on the outer central cross-line that reaches the outer cross-line, rather than a small dark smudge between the outward projections on the outer central cross-line.

Forewing: 15 to 22mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens in woodland areas.

Habits: The moth is sometimes found at rest on tree trunks during the day. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on oaks, sallows, Aspen, Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Hazel, Hawthorn, Midland Hawthorn, Hornbeam, Broom, Spindle, Purging Buckthorn, Wild Privet, Yew, European Larch, Sitka Spruce and other trees and shrubs. It pupates in the soil.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Plum and Alder.
