Similar species: Dotted Carpet is superficially similar but is whiter, with much bolder markings and the male has feathered antennae. Its flight period is later, peaking in August (although they can overlap).

Habitats: Birch woodland and birch stands on moorland.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from birch trunks. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Downy Birch, Silver Birch and sometimes Alder. It pupates just under the soil surface.
