Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 13 to 15mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, parkland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits: The moth is sometimes disturbed from the foliage of its foodplants during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Blackthorn, plums, Hawthorn, Midland Hawthorn, cultivated Apple, Crab Apple and cherries. It has also been recorded from Aspen and Wych Elm. It pupates in the leaf litter.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Goat Willow, Rowan and Dog-rose.
