Similar species: Barred Umber Plagodis pulveraria is larger and more reddish-brown. It lacks the central spot in the forewing and the streak at the wing tip.
Forewing: 16 to 18mm
Habitats: On the European mainland it inhabits mountain forest and more recently lower altitude conifer plantations.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk, but is sometimes active under the shade of trees during the day. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Norway Spruce and European Silver Fir.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on European Larch.
