Similar species: Oak Processionary Thaumetopoea processionea is smaller (M 14 to 16mm, F 16 to 17mm) and has a pale base to the forewing with a small and often faint crescent in the centre of the wing.

Habitats: On the European mainland it inhabits pine forests.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds in a silk nest on pines. In the spring it forms processions on the ground. It pupates on the ground.
