Similar species: Alder Kitten Furcula bicuspis has a more evenly inwards curved, blacker bar across the wing with orange scales only along the margins. Poplar Kitten Furcula bifida has a paler bar across the wing which is more evenly curved on the outer side and almost straight on the inner side with orange scales only along the margins.
Forewing: 14 to 18mm
Habitats: Open woodland, parkland, scrub, carr, moorland, heathland and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Grey Willow, Goat Willow and White Willow and sometimes Aspen and poplars. It pupates in a hard cocoon on the bark of the tree, partially comprised of chewed bark or wood.
