Similar species: Sallow Kitten Furcula furcula has the bar across the forewing covered in orange scales rather than just the margins. It also has a more irregularly wavy outer margin to the bar and a wavy rather than straight inner margin. Alder Kitten Furcula bicuspis has a darker bar with a curved inner margin.
Forewing: 16 to 22mm
Habitats: Poplar plantations, woodland and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on poplars, Aspen and sometimes sallows. It pupates in a hard cocoon on the bark of the tree, partially comprised of chewed bark or wood.
