Similar species: Scarce Chocolate-tip Clostera anachoreta has the chocolate area crossing the outer cross-line towards the centre of the forewing and has two black spots (one large one small) in the trailing corner of the wing.
Forewing: 13 to 18mm
Habitats: Woodland, scrub, carr, poplar plantations and shelterbelts, hedgerows, amenity planting and gardens.
Habits: The moth usually comes to light late at night, although occasionally it arrives earlier.
Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds on Aspen and other poplars, sallows and willows. It hides between spun leaves during the day. Pupation takes place spun between leaves of the foodplant which fall into the leaf litter in autumn.
