Habitats: Marshes, fens, bogs, marshy grassland, wet moorland, river-banks and dune-slacks.
Habits: The moth flies from sunset and at dawn. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Dog Lichen Peltigera ssp. and many other lichens, and mosses including Silky Wall Feather-moss Homalothecium sericeum and Common Pincushion Dicranoweisia cirrata and algae on dead marsh plants. Pupation takes place in a cocoon on foliage near the ground.
