Similar species: If care is taken this moth can be distinguished by its broad, rounded wings with a curved leading edge.

Forewing: 15 to 18mm

Habitats: Damp open woodland, marshes, fens, bogs, marshy grassland, coastal undercliff and river-banks.

Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from rest on foliage during the day. It is commonly found flying along rides from dusk onwards and can be found feeding at flowers. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on algae and lichens on trees and shrubs. In captivity it will accept mosses and withered leaves of sallows and Dandelion. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter.
