Erebidae
72.056 Common Fan-foot Pechipogo strigilata (Linnaeus, 1758)
Notable A
Similar species: This is a much paler moth than the other British and Irish fan-foots and also has more diffused cross-lines.
Forewing: 14 to 16mm
Habitats: Open parts of ancient or at least mature deciduous woodland.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from low branches and shrubs during the day. It flies from dusk and comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: In the early instars the larva feeds on the young fresh leaves of Pendunculate Oak and possibly other deciduous trees and shrubs, but later it eats the withered leaves on damaged branches. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Hornbeam, Beech, Alder and birches.
