Similar species: Blackneck Lygephila pastinum has a solid black crescent shape on the inner edge of the kidney mark usually with a couple of short streaks or dots to the outer side of it. It lacks the dark spots along the leading edge of the wing.
Forewing: 18 to 20mm
Habitats: Coastal rocky outcrops often with landslips.
Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed from the foodplant in hot weather. It flies from dusk when it nectars at Wood Sage, Goldenrod and other flowers. It later comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Wood Vetch. In captivity it will accept other vetches. It pupates in the leaf litter.
