Similar species: With its large, double-lobed forewing mark, this moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.

Forewing: 15 to 18mm

Habitats: In North America it inhabits open grassland, arable land and gardens.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In North America where it is known as the Bilobed Looper, the larva is polyphagous and feeds on Cabbage, Lettuce, cranesbills, Dandelion, Gladiolus, clovers, Lucerne, Barley, Runner Bean, larkspurs, plantains, sage, Tobacco, vervains and many other plants.
