Habitats: Marshy grassland, marshes, fens, damp coastal grassland, heathland bogs, upland moors
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Tufted Hair-grass, Purple Moor-grass, Smooth Meadow-grass, Wood Sedge and other sedges and grasses. In captivity it will accept Annual Meadow-grass. It pupates in a tough cocoon in the leaf litter or under the soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Reed Canary Grass, Wood Small-reed, Common Sedge and Cyperus spp.
