Common

Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.

Forewing: 17 to 20mm

Habitats: Deciduous woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

Habits: The moth feeds from after dusk at Ivy blossom and over-ripe Blackberries. It comes to sugar and light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Midland Hawthorn, plums, Crab Apple, pears, Dog-rose, birches, Cotoneaster, Rowan and other Rosacea. The larva forms a cocoon under the soil where it pupates several weeks later.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Wild Cherry and Sour Cherry.
