Noctuidae

73.067 Double-spot Brocade Meganephria bimaculosa (Linnaeus, 1767)

Uncertain

Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species. The double-spots in the name are the two dark blotches on the hindwing.

Forewing: 22 to 26mm

Habitats: Woodland, parkland and gardens.

Habits: There are three British records. Two were near Bristol, an unconfirmed record in July 1815 and a confirmed record from Leigh Woods in July 1949. The other was an unconfirmed record near Portsmouth in 1892 (hence not mapped).

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In southern Europe the larva feeds on elms and also oaks, Blackthorn, Peach and probably other deciduous trees.
