Local

Similar species: All of the other three British ear moths Amphipoea spp. are very similar with an overlapping variation of markings. Check genitalia.

Forewing: 13 to 15mm

Habitats: Marshes, unimproved grassland, coastal grassland, sand-dunes and dune-slacks.

Habits: The moth nectars at Heather and Common Ragwort from dusk and sometimes during the day. It also comes to light.

Foodplant: Unknown in the wild. The larva has been reared in captivity on the inner stem and root of Flag Iris. The pupation site is unknown, but is probably in a chamber under the soil.
