Immigrant

Similar species: Bulrush Wainscot Nonagria typhae (20 to 24mm) has a broader, more rounded forewing.

Forewing: 18 to 25mm

Habitats: In Siberia and central Asia it inhabits wetlands, including marshes and damp meadows.

Habits: The moth comes to light. There have been only 17 records in Britain, eight of them in September 1934 and only two 'recent' records, the last in 1996 in West Sussex.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In Siberia and central Asia the larva feeds in the roots of Common Meadow-rue, Lesser Meadow-rue and Great Fen-sedge. It is strongly associated with Common Reed on which it has been reared.
