Similar species: Although superficially similar to the minors (which are smaller), with care this moth should not be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 12 to 15mm
Habitats: Grassy clearings in open woodland. Last recorded in Hertfordshire in 1935.
Habits: The moth comes to sugar before dusk and later to light.
Foodplant: Unknown in Britain. On the European mainland it feeds on grasses.
