Immigrant / Adventive

Similar species: Dark Brocade Mniotype adusta is on average larger (18 to 21mm), less red-brown in colour and has a broader central cross-band.

Forewing: 16 to 19mm

Habitats: Open grassland, farmland and gardens.

Habits: Only one British record; at Bedrule, Roxburghshire on 29th August 1976.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. In southern Europe the larva feeds on the roots and leaves of Heather, Bog Myrtle, Alder, Common Valerian, Bladder Campion and many other low growing plants and grasses, including arable crops. In captivity it accepts sallows and Hawthorn. It pupates under the soil.
