Similar species: Pale-shouldered Brocade Lacanobia thalassina has a darker basal area to the forewing and a darker outer band. Dog's Tooth Lacanobia suasa is also darker in these areas and has a distinct dark tooth-like marking in the centre of the forewing.
Forewing: 18 to 21mm
Habitats: Open calcareous grassland, heathland, vegetated sand dunes and open woodland clearings.
Habits: The moth nectars at flowers and is attracted to sugar and light. It is sometimes found resting on tree trunks and fence posts during the day.
Foodplant: The larva feeds nocturnally on Bramble, Broom, Dyer's Greenweed, Knotgrass, docks, Redshank, Common Persicaria and other plants. It pupates under the soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Goat Willow, Wych Elm and Heather.
