Similar species: The straw colour forewing that is streaked with pink and the pink fringes separates this moth from other wainscots.

Forewing: 16 to 19mm

Habitats: Marshes, fens, bogs, wet heathland, acid grassland and stream margins in damp river valleys.

Habits: The moth feeds at the flowers of grasses and comes to sugar and light.

Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds low in the vegetation on Common Reed, Purple Moor-grass, Cock's-foot, Reed Canary-grass, Wood Small-reed and other broad-bladed grasses. It pupates in a cocoon in the leaf litter.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Tufted Hair-grass and Hairy Wood-rush.
