Immigrant

Similar species: Dark Sword-grass Agrotis ipsilon is superficially similar, but has a black streak through the kidney mark and the males have feathered antennae.

Forewing: 16 to 18mm

Habitats: In mainland Europe it inhabits Taiga moorland and scattered woodland.

Habits: The moth visits flowers after dark and is attracted to sugar and light.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. Only six records; one in the 19th century, the others in 1972 (3), 1977 and 1983.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Bilberry, willowherbs, Bog Bilberry, Common Sorrel, other docks, Lyme Grass, oraches and Sea Pea. Lodgepole Pine is recorded as a foodplant in Sweden. It pupates under the soil.
