Similar species: Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing Noctua janthe has a narrower dark border on the hindwing that does not follow the leading edge enclosing the yellow central area. Both Langmaid's Yellow Underwing Noctua janthina and Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing Noctua janthe have a darker, less warm coloured forewing. Genitalia needs to be checked to make a positive identification.
Forewing: 16 to 20mm
Habitats: So far it has been recorded in Britain in scrub and coastal grassland. In south-east Europe it is found in a variety of habitats fron sea level to 1800m.
Habits: The first record was at Dungeness on the 19th August 1992. The moth is attracted to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain.
