Similar species:

Forewing: 15 to 16mm

Habitats: Downland, heathland, moorland, open woodland, marshes, fens and vegetated coastal shingle.

Habits: The moth nectars at flowers and is attracted to light.

Foodplant: The nocturnal larva feeds on Heathers, bedstraws, Bluebell, birches, sallows, grasses and probably other herbaceous plants. It hides in loose soil or leaf litter during the day. Pupation takes place in a flimsy cocoon just under the soil.

On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on heaths, sorrels and reed-grasses.
