Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 8 to 10mm
Habitats: Hedgerows, woodland, scrub and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Midland Hawthorn, apples, plums and pears. It pupates in a cocoon attached to a twig.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Rowan, Swedish Whitebeam, Cotoneaster spp. and wild roses.
