Habitats: Deciduous woodland.
Habits: The moth rest on tree trunks in the day and later comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on dead insects, but also on decaying leaves, moss and lichen situated low down on the base of trees and stumps and fungi under loose bark or in hollow trees. The remains of insects are often used in the construction of the case. It pupates in its case low on a trunk where it fed. The pupal case is left half protruding from the larval case on emergence.
