Forewing: Parthenogenetic and wingless in Britain and Ireland.

Habitats:

Habits: The moth emerges early in the morning.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on lichens, moss and decaying vegetable matter on the ground or on tree trunks, fences, stones and walls. The larvae can occasionally be found in numbers. The full-fed larva overwinters in its case where it pupates in March attached to a fence, rock or tree trunk. The pupal case is left half protruding from the larval case on emergence.
