Habitats: Deciduous woodland and tree-lined rides.
Habits: The male comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on dead insects, but also decaying leaves on the ground and lichens and algae on tree trunks, fences or walls. It overwinters once or twice as a larva before pupating in its case in April attached to a tree trunk. The pupal case is left half protruding from the larval case on emergence.
