Habitats: Open coniferous woodland (not dense pine plantations).
Habits: The moth sits around ant nests after dark and may be disturbed from nests in the day.
Foodplant: The larva feeds for up to two years. It has a loosely spun tube from which it feeds on refuse in the nests of wood ants of the species Formica aquilonia or Formica lugubris.
