15.030 Rowan Parornix Parornix scoticella (Stainton, 1850)
Common
Similar species:
Forewing: 4.5 to 5mm
Habitats: Deciduous woodland, heathland, the lower slopes of mountains, gardens and orchards.
Habits:
Foodplant: The larva forms a gallery mine on the underside of a leaf of Rowan, Common Whitebeam, Wild Service-tree, apples or Tree Cotoneaster. The mine later becomes a blotch. This causes the leaf to become discoloured brown. The larva then spins a silk pad in the centre or on an edge of the leaf. This makes it pucker and resembles a mine. The full-fed larva overwinters in its cocoon spun under a leaf edge where it pupates in early spring.
