Habitats: Dry grassland, wasteland and river-banks.

Habits: The moth rests near the foodplant after dark and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feed in a silk gallery in the roots of Mugwort, moving into the stem in spring and often causing the shoot to wilt or even die. It will change to a fresh shoot. It pupates in the leaf litter.
