Similar species: Agonopterix ocellana does not have the dark suffusion adjacent to the red central marking reaching the leading edge of the forewing.
Forewing: 8 to 9.5mm
Habitats: Damp grassland, damp meadows, damp open woodland, ditches, sea walls, river-banks and marshes.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The young larva feeds in a leaflet of Hemlock with the tip rolled over. It later spins a larger silk tube within rolled leaflets and sometimes spins the flowers or fruit. It pupates in the earth or in the leaf litter.
